California county says Tesla may not reopen vehicle factory, stifling Musk’s plans

(Reuters) – Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) “must not reopen” its vehicle factory in the San Francisco Bay area as local lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus remain in effect, the local county health department said on Friday.

The comments came after Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk, told employees Thursday evening that limited production would restart at the factory in Fremont, Tesla’s only U.S. vehicle factory, on Friday afternoon.

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday afternoon said that manufacturers in the state would be allowed to reopen. But Alameda County, where the factory is located, is scheduled to remain shut until the end of May.

1 person had to be freed from the crash by emergency personel


One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident, Friday night, in York CountyFire officals say a car crashed into a building, along the 300 block of Winterstown Road, in Windsor Township.When crews arrived, just before 10:30 p.m., they found a victim trapped in the car.It took emergency workers nearly 30 minutes to free the person from the wreck.The victim was taken to the hospital.The cause of the crash is under investigation.

One person was killed and another was injured after the car they were in crashed into a tree in Anderson County, according to the coroner.Greg Shore, the Anderson County coroner, says the accident happened around 11:59 p.m. Friday on I-85 North near mile marker 6.The chief deputy coroner says Brian Owens, 35, and a passenger were driving north when Owens lost control of his vehicle, drove off the highway, and struck a tree.Owens was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to AnMed Health, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.The coroner’s office and Highway Patrol are investigating the accident.

Many are turning to vehicle parades to show their support and love for family, friends and even essential workers on the front lines of the pandemic.

Public Health Dayton-Montgomery County recently announced guidelines on how to safely organize a vehicle parade. Greene County Public Health is also following those recommendations.

Anyone who chooses to participate in a vehicle parade should do the following:

  • No one who feels sick should participate.
  • All participants’ temperature should be taken before they leave home.
  • One person or household per vehicle.
  • If meeting before the parade, all vehicles and people must remain 6 feet apart.
  • Participants must say in their vehicles at all times.

Two-vehicle crash at Caldwell intersection: Suspect in custody at Canyon County Jail

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Caldwell on Sunday morning.

CALDWELL, Idaho — Update 12:58 p.m.: Thurston is currently in custody at the Canyon County Jail. He is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DUI.

Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle wreck that left one person dead and three in the hospital. The crash occurred around 2:05 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Key West Street and South Florida Avenue in Caldwell, according to ISP.

37-year-old Caldwell resident Janet Gonzalez was heading southbound on South Florida Avenue. 20-year-old Nampa resident Grayson Thurston was driving in the same direction when Thurston’s vehicle struck Gonzalez’s vehicle, according to ISP.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, ISP says.

Vehicle fleeing MSP reaches over 100 mph in Oakland County before crash in Sterling Heights

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A vehicle fleeing Michigan State Police troopers reached speeds of over 100 mph in Oakland County before crashing in Sterling Heights, authorities said.

Michigan State Police troopers were called around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday about a carjacking suspect fleeing police. They said he was involved in several incidents in Detroit and Eastpointe.

Detroit police officers were initially chasing the vehicle, but stopped when it crossed into Royal Oak.

The vehicle sped through Royal Oak and into Troy, according to authorities. State troopers took over the pursuit.

Troopers tried to stop the driver on Metro Parkway, but he led them into a subdivision along Metro Parkway and then eastbound through several cities.

The chase ended with a violent crash in Sterling Heights. Police said the man was approaching Dodge Park when he lost control of the vehicle, struck the curb
