OXNARD, Calif. – The Oxnard Police Department responded to a traffic crash between a car and bicyclist that left one dead early Sunday morning.
At 4:29 a.m., police responded to the crash on the 2400 block of Statham Boulevard.
Officers said a 2017 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Statham Boulevard when it crashed into the bicyclist who was traveling in an unknown direction on Statham Boulevard.
Police said the driver of the Honda, a 43-year-old male Oxnard resident, was not injured and cooperated with investigators after the crash.
The bicyclist however, sustained serious injuries. EMS personnel provided first aid and life-saving measures, however, police said he ended up dying from his wounds.
While the victim’s identity has not yet been released, police described him as a 49-year-old man who resided in Oxnard.
Traffic investigators have taken over the investigation and are trying to determine the cause of the crash. They said, at this time, it is unknown whether speed or alcohol/drugs were involved.
