Driver killed, passenger injured after car hits tree in Anderson County, coroner says

One person was killed and another was injured after the car they were in crashed into a tree in Anderson County, according to the coroner.Greg Shore, the Anderson County coroner, says the accident happened around 11:59 p.m. Friday on I-85 North near mile marker 6.The chief deputy coroner says Brian Owens, 35, and a passenger were driving north when Owens lost control of his vehicle, drove off the highway, and struck a tree.Owens was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to AnMed Health, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.The coroner’s office and Highway Patrol are investigating the accident.
